Sports Day’17

The 32nd Annual Sports day of Chettinad Vidyashram, held on 30th July 2017 at the Nehru Stadium, Chennai under the able guidance of the Correspondent , Dr. Mrs. Meena Muthiah turned out to be a very energetic event.

A healthy competition prevailed as the participants got ready to give their 100% for their teams— Emerald, Pearl , Ruby and Sapphire.  The excitement in air was palpable as the ceremony started off with an invocation prayer. The school principal Mrs. Amudha Lakshmi rendered the welcome address and also appreciated the students for their infallible team spirit, their brilliant talent and steadfast nature.

A colourful march-past, with the prefectorial body in the lead was followed by the lighting of the Olympic torch. Some of the most talented sportspersons of Chettinad Vidyashram relayed the baton around the large stadium. Thiru. N. Baskaran, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Crime branch, Chennai, presided over as the Chief Guest. He addressed the gathering and stressed the importance of sports in the overall development of a child. Mass Drill with colourful props by the primary students on the theme “Save Nature” set to peppy musical tune was a spectacular show. The Western dance which incorporated the balancing stunts on the “Cyrwheel” was indeed a commendable feat. The foot tapping Hindi dance depicting the message of peace displayed the five elements of nature. The yoga exhibit of Surya Namaskar and advanced asanas by over 200 students, kept the audience gripped to the seats. Sukriti, a student of class 6 enthralled the crowd by her special performance.

The finals of all the sports events aroused a lot of excitement as the students cheered for their team and friends.  The event gained momentum as the winners were rewarded with medals, trophies and certificates.

Emerald House won the championship for athletics and Sapphire House for swimming and intra –murals this year. The winning teams were presented with rolling trophies by the honorable Chief Guest.
