Bard’s Becon:

Bards Beacon – the literary festival of the department of English was held on the 10th of January 2018, much to the delight of the lovers of the Queen’s language.  What made the event extra special was the presence of the renowned educator and consultant Ms Jyoth Swaroop as the chief guest.  Ms Swaroop stressed on the importance of good communication which is an imperative skill to gamer in today’s world.

Prize winners of various literary events received their awards from the chief guest.  Poetry recitation, an adaptation of Charles Lamb’s ‘Chimney sweepers’ in dance form and dramatic monologues tingled the cultural and aesthetic sense of the audience.

Math Club: 8th ANNIVERSARY

The eighth Anniversary of  Math Club was conducted on Friday 19th January 2018 and was graced by the Correspondent, Dr. Mrs. Meena Muthiah and Principal Mrs. Amudha Lakshmi.

The Math club of Chettinad Vidyashram has taken the subject to greater heights by introducing new quick techniques to solve the problems and removing the fear of math among children,   who feel that Math is tough.

The program commenced with the welcome address by the Head of the Math department Mr. Sylvester.  The Chief Guest Dr. Parameswaran Sankaran, Institute of  Mathematical  Sciences,  Taramani, Chennai  rendered an enlightening speech on importance of  Math and its application in various arenas.  The vote of thanks was given by the Assistant HOD, Mrs. Gayathri. S

As a part of the program we had a cultural show by our students.  The  stage exhibited their exquisite creative  talent.  The invocation dance depicted mathematical shapes and numbers. A small skit was presented highlighting the importance of Math in a student’s life.  Another exponential dance using vibrant colours & powers with a message on “Swachh Bharat’ captivated the audience. A special interactive game show related to the subject was indeed unique.   The programme concluded with the national anthem.

Moot Court:

The 2nd edition of Chettinad Vidyashram’s Moot Court Competition was held on 20th January, 2018. It provided an opportunity for the students of 11th and 12thgrade to develop their writing and advocacy skills and to test these in an open, rigorous competition.  Advocate S. Rajasekar, who holds over two decades of experience and a Full Member of the Madras Bar Association graced the occasion with his presence and provided the students with an insight on making litigation a career.

Advocate Meenakshi and Advocate Arun Arasi were the judges for the competition. The Moot Court dealt with a Tort case based on Medical Negligence. Four teams presented their arguments for both, the petitioner and the defendant’s side. Students were inculcated with the value of preserving, promoting and protecting the rule of law.  The teachers in-charge, Mrs.Mirrunalini and Mrs.Neshini vigorously prepared the students to match wits with the judges and engage in the legal battle. Awards were distributed for the Best Team, Best Speakers, Best Researchers and for the Best Court Manners.

Khelo India Program:

Smruthi Mahalingam,of VIII and Ahamed Azraq, of X have been selected to represent our school at the Prime Minister’s sports project “KHELO INDIA”  program. This is a national level sports program across 16 disciplines for the top 16 athletes of India in their respective sports discipline. Smruthi, 14 years is one among the youngest participants in the under 17 girls category in swimming who would be vying for a top spot.

Teacher’s Awards:

KanthiniMrs Khanthini of Psychology Department attended and completed advanced RE-CBT (Rational Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) course, supervised by President of Albert Ellis Institute, New York.

Deepa LakshmiMrs. R. Deepalakshmi (Scout Master) was honoured by Tamilnadu Education Minister Mr. Sengottaiyan for having successfully completed the Himalayan Wood Badge (HWB).

Banumathy RameshMrs Bhanumathy Ramesh of the Economics Department was honoured with the ‘Shri Kola Permula Chetty Best Teacher Award’ 2017-18, for commendable service and contribution to the study of Economics.
