The second edition of Ampersand, Chettinad Vidyashram’s very own inter-school debate competition, this time in collaboration with Crea-Shakthi, took place on the 4th and 5th of August 2017. With a multitude of ancillary events like JAM, Journalism, Split Personality and Stance Drafting in addition to the Asian Parliamentary debate, and separate categories for juniors and seniors, Ampersand indeed proved to be a platform for budding orators and debaters to showcase their skills besides helping debutantes unearth hidden talents. The opening ceremony saw Mrs.Meena Muthiah, or Meena Aunty, as she is fondly known, the principal, Mrs.Amudhalakshmi and the Chief Guest, Mr.Vikram Ravi Ramanathan, Director of operations and Client Services at Unmetric, addressing the gathering. The events then began, and it was truly a war of wits and words. Numerous students from various schools in and around the city took part in them, giving voice and validation to their thoughts and opinions through boldly presented facts.

There was intense competition and exemplary debate on both days but that didn’t deter the students from forging new friendships or exchanging ideas and when the winners were announced during the closing ceremony by the Chief Guest, Ms.Keerthi Jayakumar, with PS Senior Secondary School coming first in the Parliamentary Debate, the main event of Ampersand, and students from Chettinad Vidyashram winning most of the other ancillary events, there was cheer ringing throughout the auditorium. In all, Ampersand 2017 proved to be yet another roaring success.
